Web Design Continues To Evolve
Web design continues to evolve and clean uncluttered designs are all the rage.
Over the last decade, with the advent of mobile devices, web design has changed dramatically. Ten years ago a web designer could get away with making a site that would only be viewed on a desktop or a laptop. The only worry was ensuring that they viewed correctly across the spectrum of browsers. Of course there was always some lousy old version of Internet Explorer to worry about, but that was about it.
Fast forward a few years and tech companies like Apple started releasing hand held devices that could browse the web. At first people put up with menus that didn’t work and “pinching” – “pulling” to view the full page or an image. It didn’t take long before consumer demand for a better experience had designers fully engaged, working to provide a better UE, and before you know it we had bootstrap and a whole new way to make a website.
Code got cleaner, fonts got more consistent and easier to read, and for most, colors were toned down.
Today’s website should work and display well on any device. I prefer to design with a clean look, without a lot of contrast and of course, strong, engaging images. Over the last few years video has also become more prevalent, embedded in pages and advances in coding have allowed them to be much lighter. I think this is the wave of the future for websites and social media content alike. Another point to consider, Google recently announced that non-responsive websites will no longer be “found” by their search engine, this is creating problems for people with older websites and is greatly decreasing traffic to these older sites.
If you have a clunky old website, or if you’re just sick of your current site, I’d love to chat about getting you setup with a modern, clean look. Please contact me using the contact form on this page, I look forward to hearing from you!
